科技新報／微軟內部稱Windows 8是另一個 Vista
知名科技部落客 Paul Thurrott 在 Twitter 上透露，微軟公司內部將 Windows 8 成爲新 Vista，在銷量和市場認可度方面，微軟員工認爲 Windows 8 和 Windows Vista 一樣糟糕，甚至銷量還不如 Vista。
微軟 Windows 8 系統自上市以來銷量速度不 及Windows Vista 同期表現，截止到 2013 年 9 月 Windows 8 上市 11 個月全球市佔率僅爲 8%，而 Windows Vista 在發表 11 個月後網路流量佔比爲8.1%，Windows 7 上市11個月佔比爲 17.6%，後者爲微軟旗下 Windows 市佔率最高的系統。
先前 Paul Thurrott 透露預裝 Windows 8.1 系統的 PC 出貨量不到 2,500 萬臺，從另一方面也證明 PC 產業持續衰退，據市場研究公司 Gartner 預期 2013 年 PC 銷量下跌幅度將超過以往任何一年。
對於微軟來說，Windows 8 成敗與否還處在爭議中，研發重心則放到了下世代 Windows 系統，內部開發代號爲 Threshold，據悉這就將全平臺的系統，微軟嘗試將 Windows 系統拓展至智慧型手機、平板電腦、甚至遊戲主機平臺上，避免 PC 產業衰退給 Windows 業務帶來的影響。
