本週我們來學習道路相關的詞彙

1. pothole /'pɒthəʊl/

n. (路面、河底等的)坑,坑洞

補充:roads riddled/ dotted with potholes 坑坑窪窪的路面

e.g. After the heavy rain, numerous potholes appeared on the road, making driving difficult.

e.g. His morning commute became a frustrating experience as the road was dotted with potholes from recent construction work.

其他補充:crack (道路)裂紋;裂縫

e.g. Drivers had to slow down to avoid the deep potholes and the numerous cracks in the pavement.

2. bumpy/'bʌmpɪ/

adj. 顛簸的;不平穩的

e.g. The road was rough so we had a bumpy ride.

e.g. The ride was bumpy due to the uneven road and countless potholes.

adj.困難重重的;歷經坎坷的

e.g. Adjusting to a new job can be bumpy at first, especially when learning the ropes in a fast-paced environment.

e.g. Her academic journey was bumpy, filled with moments of doubt and difficult exams, but she never gave up.

補充:learning the ropes 熟悉基本流程;技巧等。

3. resurface /riː'sɜːfɪs/

v. 給…重鋪路面

e.g. The road needs to be resurfaced.

e.g. They had to resurface the road because it was too worn out.

補充:worn out adj.破舊不堪的;磨損的

4. jaywalk /ˈʤeɪˌwɑːk/

v. 亂穿馬路

e.g. He got a ticket for jaywalking across the busy street without using the crosswalk.

e.g. The city has increased fines to discourage people from jaywalking in high-traffic areas.

n. jaywalker 亂穿馬路的人

e.g. As a jaywalker, she didn't realize how much she was disrupting traffic until a car honked at her.

5. pedestrian /pɪ'destrɪən/

n. 行人;步行者

e.g. The city has built new crosswalks to make it safer for pedestrians to cross busy streets.

e.g. The driver was fined for not stopping when a pedestrian was crossing the road.
